MERLIN was contacted in 2019 by an oil-focused infrastructure company to provide acoustical lagging on some piping leading to a LACT unit (Lease Automatic Custody Transfer). LACT units are used to transfer custody of oil and petroleum products from the oil and gas producer to the pipeline company. Large pumps are used to move petroleum product through the LACT unit and can often be the dominant noise source at a production facility.
After discussions with the client it was determined that an acoustical barrier wall that surrounded the piping and pumps was a more preferred solution than lagging just the pipes. MERLIN successfully completed the installation of the acoustical barrier in the fall of 2019.
