MERLIN was contacted in 2019 by a Leading Canadian Oil and Gas Producer to provide acoustical lagging on some piping leading to a LACT unit (Lease Automatic Custody Transfer). LACT units are used to transfer custody of oil and petroleum products from the oil and gas producer to the pipeline company. Large pumps are used to move petroleum product through the LACT unit and can often be the dominant noise source at a production facility.
After discussions with the client it was determined that an acoustical building that enclosed the entire pump was a more preferred solution than lagging just the pipes. Merlin successfully completed the installation of the acoustical building in the fall of 2019. Removable roof and side panels were incorporated into the design in order to provide access for future maintenance.
