Do you know the difference between STC and IIC?
Two terms commonly heard when discussing the performance of different noise control materials are the acronyms STC and IIC. What do these terms mean? IIC or Impact Isolation Class refers to how well a product or assembly mitigates noise from impact sounds, such as footfalls. A larger number will indicate higher performance. STC or Sound Transmission Class refers to how well a product or assembly mitigates airborne noise, such as talking or a loud television. As with the IIC rating, a higher STC number will indicate higher performance.
